Dave Davies interviews Joe R. Lansdale at length (a very slight acquaintance of mine, and friend of my friends, and a great writer--and, as it happens, a bestseller in Italy and whose crime-fiction novel series is spawning a Sundance Channel tv series starting next week, HAP AND LEONARD), and Kevin Whitehead on the history of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra...FRESH AIR sans Terry Gross always tends better. (And a consideration of the French government's new attempts to streamline spelling, after mulling it for a quarter-century...no report on how Belgium, Quebec, Haiti et al. are likely to take this, aside from how the more conservative French are less than sanguine.
