Uh-oh. I may have sent this already before I wrote the message. Please ignore my previous message (if there was one).

Dear Stumpers,

I may be able to clarify some terminology here.

A performing arts library is a real library, with books, journals, etc. about the performing arts.

A performance library is more of a storage space. A choir or orchestra keeps its music (that is, print music) there. A performance librarian is responsible for things like making sure each player has the right music on his or her stand. It's much more mechanical than what we think of as a librarian.

Hope this helps,

Nina Gilbert

Subject: [PW] book for performance library

Someone last week was asking for recommendations for
materials for a new performance library.

I was just looking through the new catalog for
Scarecrow Press (http://www.scarecrowpress.com) and
saw a listing for _A Manual for the Performance
Library_, by Russ Girsberger, ISBN 0-8108-5871-1,
$45.00 (U.S.) in paper, due out this month, October
2006. It seems to be largely about cataloging music,
but it might be helpful. .......
