[PW] Identification of book about Vietnam

This is just a personal request, so there's no urgency to it.

I'm trying to identify a book I once read, but I cannot recall the title or 
the author (although I'm sure I'll recognize the former once I see it). 
The book was written by a draftee (or perhaps a reluctant enlistee) about a 
tour of duty he served in Vietnam.  I'm sure a good many books fit that 
description, but the only distinguishing feature I can recall about this one 
is that the author was not part of a combat unit, but served (mostly) behind 
the lines at a facility where he repaired trucks and other motor vehicles. 
I also remember that a substantial portion of his narrative dealt with a 
prostitute he met while on leave (somewhere in Asia), whom he wanted to take 
back to America after his term of service was up.
